People carry things for years that never become content: a decision they keep replaying, a moment that stayed, something they have never been able to explain to anyone. Not because it isn’t worth telling. Because there was never anywhere to tell it without an audience.
Ember starts there. You talk for yourself — not for an audience, not to help anyone, not to make a post. Saying it is how you sort out what happened, and what you said comes back to you as your own Ember: one clear page in your words, yours to keep and come back to.
Underneath, we believe real lives hold hidden relevance to one another. People may be far apart, and yet what one person lived can matter deeply to another. Noticing that is Ember’s job, not yours.
Two things follow from it. Every Ember quietly takes its place on a tree everyone shares: each light is a situation many people have stood in, showing only the situation — its name, a line of what it is, and how many have stood there — never anyone’s words. And Embers are privately matched. When what someone just told stands very close to an Ember someone else told before, Ember brings that one Ember to them, privately — the way you might ask someone who has been there, without asking the internet. They read it in the teller’s words, can say thank you, and can leave one private note that only the teller sees; the teller can answer once. That is all that ever passes between them, and beyond a nickname and a line, neither learns who the other is.
Your conversation stays private. Your Ember may be privately matched by default. It is never a public post or feed, and you can keep any Ember private anytime — for all your Embers or for any one — so it reaches no one new; withdraw it, and everyone it reached loses access too. You can also send your Ember to someone yourself, with a link you can take back anytime.
We believe AI should help people say what they lived more faithfully — not replace it, invent it, or tell people what their lives are supposed to mean.
