I wondered whether she might not have many close friends, so I asked her teacher. The answer confused me even more: her teacher said she was actually very outgoing at school and that everyone seemed to like her. Maybe the problem is simply that she isn’t interested in studying. I’m still not sure what the real reason is.
I have seen how happy she can be when school is not part of the picture. She especially loved our trip to Los Angeles, when there was no homework and no school to worry about. We could relax, enjoy the local food, and visit my friend’s farm. It felt like one of the happiest times of her life.
