The Interview

I gave everything. It still wasn’t enough.

Today I was chatting with someone online. I asked a question, and they answered. Then I asked another, and they answered that too. I asked a lot of questions, and they stayed and typed long answers, so I knew they were not simply leaving me.

But they never asked me anything. There was no question coming back, no sign that they wanted to know me. I started wondering whether they liked chatting with me or were only trying to spend time. It felt very boring, and I could not tell where I stood.

The best way I can describe it is that I felt like an interviewer, and they wanted to have an interview. I was doing all the work to keep the conversation alive. I still do not know what to do, so for now I only correspond with them when I see them online and see the chat there.
