What happened here, week by week
Most of the people who came to this light this week were not looking back on it from a distance; they were still standing inside the not-knowing. Several of them asked a direct question about where the other person had been or who they'd been with, and got anger, silence, or a sudden change of subject instead of an answer. More than one went looking for proof on their own, a phone left open, a driveway checked twice, a video that seemed to show more than the other person would admit to. Even without that answer, they stayed, holding on to the parts of the relationship they still believed were real, while quietly deciding how much longer they could keep doing that without one.
