Feeling lonely and wanting companionship

25 people have stood here

Ask what they went through

Ember has listened to everyone who stood here. Answers come from all of them together, never from any one.

Going through this yourself?

Ember thinks it through with you, wherever you start.

When loneliness feels like having no one to call

Loneliness is not always the same as being physically alone. It can be the feeling that there is no person available for this particular thought, moment, or version of you.

Wanting to be heard without posting publicly

You may want to say what is happening without turning it into a social post, asking friends to fix it, or performing for a public audience. Ember begins with a private AI conversation by voice or text, then keeps the result as a written Ember in your own words.

Where real experience enters

Ember is not a live human listener or an AI companion pretending to be one. If it finds one closely related real experience, it asks whether you want it to request access. The owner is asked separately, and only if both people say yes does that one private Ember open to you.

What happened here, week by week

  • Week of September 14· 8 new Embers from 8 people· Written September 21, 2026

Several of them kept reaching out through apps and phone numbers, only to meet silence or a connection that faded once the conversation ended. More than one noticed they were always the one initiating, and grew tired of asking to be chosen instead of being chosen. A couple of them stayed in a relationship that didn't feel right, because leaving it meant facing the loneliness underneath. Some kept telling themselves they would try again tomorrow, even while doubting anything would actually change.

A week gets an entry when at least five new Embers arrive. Drawn from everyone who arrived that week, never from any one of them.

How this page works

What can I ask here?

What the people who stood here went through: what they tried, what changed, what came after. Type your own question, or take one that someone here asked before you.

Where do the answers come from?

From the people who stood here. Each of them told Ember what happened to them; Ember reads all of it together and answers only with what at least two of them share. No sentence is one person’s story.

Why didn’t my question get an answer?

Nobody here has been through that part yet, or only one person has. The answer grows as more people stand here.

What does “stood here” mean?

Each of them told Ember something that happened to them, and their page was placed on this light. The pages stay theirs; only the count is public.

What happens if I tell my part?

You get one clear page of what happened, in your words, yours to keep. Nobody sees it. If Ember later finds one person who lived something close, it asks you first whether you want it to ask them.

You don’t need to have the right words.

Start with what today felt like, the person you wish you could call, or simply say, “I feel alone.”
